| Smash or Trash Is a Smash!
After completion of our evaluation it was easy to see that Smash or Trash was an absolute smash in itself. It has been quite some time since we have seen such intensity in a game as Smash or Trash develops from game play. This game get the competitive juices flowing and creative skills as well. The words provided by the creators of the game for us to understand what the game is all about truly define it...Smash or Trash is a game where players make up hysterical new lyrics to popular hit music! (...and we mean HYSTERICAL!)
Although there is so much excitement and creative spirit stirred up with this game, the game play is still rather simple, yet educational. Every player will get both a Songs card and a Subject card at the beginning of each round. Players are then given time to write as many new lyrics as they like about the subject to the tune of one of the listed songs. The songs are performed and players vote for those they like best. Once all the rounds are completed the player with the most points wins.
An AWESOME Experience!
In my writing this portion of the summary I think of a comment from one of our staff's family members we pushed into playing Smash or Trash with us. When the entire experience was over, ( sometime after 2am in the morning ), I asked him what he thought about the game after having actually played it. His response was "It was an AWESOME experience! He emphasized the word awesome with the strongest level of emotional expression.
From this point on, I will take a different path in my details about what makes Smash or Trash so great. It is already clearly established that the game has plenty of FunFactor™, but what about its contribution to critical/cognitive skill development, educational level, and so much more which has not yet been discussed?
Well, in regard to critical/cognitive skill development, although a child of 8 years of age and those of greater age level generally have already completed development of their primary critical and cognitive skills, it doesn't end there. Development and improvement of these skills is a constant, a factor which must always be focused upon with a striving for improvement. Smash or Trash is a magnificent tool to help make it happen.
To be given a card with the name of a tune and another with a specific subject with which you are expected to develop lyrics for is a challenge, a stimulation to critical skills of your body. Your critical/cognitive skills intertwine with your creative talent and so many other parts of you which define who you are and the skills you possess. In playing this game it is like anything else which provides a challenge to accomplish, learn it, repeat it, and improve upon it.
For some people, in their minds creativity is not on their highest level of their skills, while for others, it may be an everyday thing. This game provides the tools and opportunity to improve upon your creativity and group social interaction no matter what level of creative or social-interactive skill you may think you have. Smash or Trash pinches you in the butt to get off it, think, and create!
The best part of all is the level of comedy that is created from a group of people with all sorts of levels of skills and personality, all working for the same goal, to win. You can guarantee that it is a level playing field with this game. Everyone has to face the same challenge, never knowing what combination of cards may be drawn when it is their turn. In the experience I had personally with the game, we played for hours on end, never even thinking about the time. The more we played, the more the competitive spirit sprang up in all of us with some of us say "c'mon, just one more time!"

Smash or Trash provides a more unique format of a game for me to evaluate, considering it is not a board game format as is generally submitted to me for my critique. I must say you folks have a skill for providing games for me to evaluate which separate themselves from the rest of the crowd of recreational game play creations. Smash or Trash is yet another one of these types of games, an activity game in this instance, which are invigorating to study and evaluate.
As I have mentioned in my last report for you of a board game you submitted, I repeat my statement yet again as an affirmation of my position on it. Many of the games I see that are so popular these days, in reality
have no redeeming qualities in purpose outside of lining the pocketbooks of their creators from the profits of the exaggerated retail price point. My position is clear and is unlikely to change unless there is a significant
change in the development of games.
Smash or Trash is an activity game which has a bountiful wealth of qualities and features which are most impressive and make it exciting to play, while at the same time helping those who play it learn and grow substantially on multiple levels both in skills and personal growth. In a sense it causes those with a groundhog personality to peek out of their inter-personal security holes and perhaps even venture out. Smash or Trash has my vote and approval as an activity game which meets my high standards of what I expect in an activity game design.

In my 'initial' observation of Smash or Trash I was not immediately impressed, it was what appeared to be yet another activity game with a new slant on an old and pre-established game conceptual design. At the same time I know that your people never submit just an 'average' game to be quantified. With this in mind I proceeded to give this game a more thorough and detailed examination to develop a report through results from an active play study as requested. My assumption of the quality of what you submitted proved to be a valid assumption with Smash or Trash.
Active Play With Smash and Trash
Nothing says it better than active play in determining the full value
and potential of a game. For my evaluation of Smash or Trash, I
created a study environment which would be most suitable for
a careful study of the response levels and structure of the game through active play in my
For the full evaluation of Smash or Trash, the study environment was structured as follows;
Test Group I: M/F 8 to 12 y.o.
Test Group II; M/F 14 to 18 y.o.
Test Group III; M/F 21 to 54 y.o.
Each test group was instructed to play 5 games per session x 5 days
for this segment of the study. At
the end of the test group's assigned study period, each individual participating
in the study was instructed to fill out a 5 page questionnaire which
was designed to profile each participant's responses to the experience
of having played the game. Upon completion of the questionnaire, the results
were placed in the letter sized envelop which was on the table with each
questionnaire, seal it, and deposit in the secured documents box at the
front of the room.
The following day all participants assembled together as one group
in the classroom for a post study response forum. In this forum all participants
were enabled to discuss their experience of playing Smash or Trash with
all other participants. The participants were comparing their various
experiences, learning how some participants developed strategies which
they feel helped them get and edge on their game play. A special notation
was made of how a sizable number of the participants were having discussion
of the emotional and psychological which were garnered from playing Smash
At the closing of the forum, I submitted a question to the participants;
'What do you feel was the one factor of the game which would be most
likely to be experienced by every participant in the study who played
Smash or Trash?' After 15 minutes to discuss the question amongst themselves,
an answer was agreed upon by the group as a whole. The response to my
query was a unanimous opinion that every single participant wanted more
time to play the game than the time which was allotted.
What is the most thought-provoking consideration in the response to my
query is that the participants established an unquestionable fact; Smash
or Trash has the right combination of elements with which to make it irresistible. The
first time someone plays Smash or Trash is more than likely not going to
be their last.
In my reviewing the videotapes from each of the groups playing the
game for behavioral analysis study in my evaluation, it was quite evident
of how dramatic changes occurred in each individual in a progressive manner
with each time they played the game. The changes were subtle and not
immediately evident yet when you view the progressive changes becoming
more evident in each of the video tapes, validation of this was unquestionable.
Playing Smash or Trash stimulates a strong level of improvement and growth in an individual. Smash or Trash passes my evaluation."

Consumer feedback is like precious gold...literally invaluable. Honest feedback from hands-on evaluation of products we bring to a location or locations, assists us in seeing virtually all sides of the picture when it comes to product evaluation.

For Smash or Trash we performed consumer hands-on evaluation in a busy public mall in the Los Angeles area, along with 23 other products. Having several products available for consumer evaluation all at once. This provides a more well balanced and unbiased evaluation of the products. Many of them had two or three copies available to provide a larger base of opportunity for consumer evaluation. Smash or Trash was not one of the first and most popular products which consumers went to on the tables once we pulled the ropes to the evaluation tables area. The beauty of hands-on consumer evaluation is that what you see in the beginning of the evaluation more often than not does not define the results in the end. Smash or Trash proved this as fact without a doubt.
The first challenge for Smash or Trash was if the game would draw enough people to sit down and take the time to play the game. Never did we imagine that within less than two hours, we would not just have 2 or three people playing Smash or Trash, but rather five to seven people! Smash or Trash got a buzz going with the game players that drew plenty of attention. That really shouldn't have been any surprise, after all, when there is plenty of FunFactor™ you know that hooping and hollering is soon to follow.
Smash or Trash was a hit without a doubt. It was so popular that we had a couple ask to buy it from us. They told me personally that they had loads of board games and other game types in their house, playing games at the dining room table every evening after dinner. They even offered to have me visit their house if I didn't believe them...I took them up on their invitation.
To my unexpected surprise when I entered the residence of this couple, I discovered they had a variety of furniture pieces with shelves neatly and orderly filled with boxes of games! I don't mean just ten or twenty games, I am talking so many boxes of games that it would take a good period of time to count them all! Now that is what I call a couple who take game play seriously.
What this all boils down to is that Smash or Trash pulled through this segment of the evaluation with the highest of respect. This is a game which make a difference in those who take the challenge to play it, but you had better be careful, Smash or Trash is addictive.

Combining the facts of every single participant demonstrating a very strong response level in the playing of the game, our videotape evaluation, and the feedback in our product evaluation feedback forms, it was easy to establish that Smash or Trash pulls a perfect score in this category.
INNOVATION: Rating Level - 
Determining the level of innovation in the design of the game was quite simple with Smash or Trash. Smash or Trash is of the highest quality in many categories yet falls short just a small pinch in this category.
Smash or Trash is quite exciting, fun and so much more, yet it is is similar enough to other games currently available to drop a single digit in this category scoring. The innovative concept of the game is unquestionably there yet just not enough to have a perfect score in this category. Smash or Trash pulls a score of "4" in this category, well above average in the level of innovative design.
MARKETING VALUE: Rating Level - 
The marketing value of Smash or Trash was another tough one to determine. It is well designed and has an excellent price point. The FunFactor™ of the game was over the top. In almost every evaluation category, Smash or Trash pulls a perfect score. The level of popularity was all too apparent from our video tapes, feedback forms, and our own visual impression.
Smash or Trash holds a very high potential in sales. When you combine all of the scores from all of the categories we use to determine the final averaged scoring, Smash or Trash has a much higher probability of sales than many other games. What you have here is a game which is most unique and innovative, and pulling a perfect score in this category.
VISUAL APPEAL: Rating Level - 
When it comes to visual appeal, Smash or Trash pulls a score well above average in this category. The game box design is rather...different. It draws your attention without a doubt yet just not enough for everyone to grasp the full value of what the game is all about.
The Smash or Trash game pieces are well above average in visual appeal, especially the game cards, easy to read, bright and crisp in color. The instructions alone are a small bit lacking in visual appeal yet once again are easy to read. The game is still an outstanding game overall, yet Smash or Trash pulls a score one digit short of perfect in this category.
